Mainly rural county with the River Great Ouse flowing through its heartland. Bedford, where John Bunyan was imprisoned, is the county town and Luton the largest. The Chiltern Hills cover the southern part of the county with Dunstable Downs a well-known viewpoint, now sporting a new National Trust information centre.
