Lancashire has been heavily mutilated in recent years losing the Furness area to Cumbria, the southern part of the county to Manchester and Merseyside; Warrington to Cheshire. Preston is the city and Blackpool and its tower, a popular seaside resort. Eastwards is the Ribble Valley and the moorlands of the South Pennines; great walking country.
