A Midlands county spanning the River Severn, south-west of Birmingham, from the Malvern Hills to the Cotswold escarpment. It is one of the 'coloured counties' mentioned by the poet A.E. Housman and the inspiration for several composers, in particular Sir Edwards Elgar. Worcester is the cathedral city, other towns include Droitwich and Evesham.
